Parliament Minutes

Grade 2 Parliament

In Grade 2, Parliament is way to increase the children’s responsibility of their learning and also their responsibility of their community. The forum promotes student voice to be the heart of the unit. There are six Committees in Grade 2 and all students are part of a Committee:

* Health & Wellbeing

* Curious

* Creative

* ICT

* Environment and

* Learning Agreement

At each Parliament session, Committee representatives give a report to their Community on their ideas and proposals. The representatives are decided by the Committee members. The representatives are also able to ask Parliament to vote on their interest in events or what they would like to do, ensuring that everyone is able to contribute to decisions.

The Committee representative is chosen by the committee itself, however it is encouraged that this role is shared and rotated. The Chairperson is rotated to allow all student’s to have a go at this role. The Chairperson identifies what a respectful audience member looks and sounds like and offers reminders to their peers if they are not being respectful audience members. The Chairperson is able to eject member’s of the Parliament if they choose to not comply with being a respectful member of Parliament.  It is to his or her discretion whether they choose to eject a peer. If a student has been ejected, they leave the room with a teacher to reflect on their choices. They are welcomed beck to the forum after an apology is given to the community.

We look forward to seeing the wonderful projects and ideas that arise from Parliament and Committee discussions!
